Engineering graduates in Hyderabad in race for sub-inspector posts
More than a lakh apply for posts in civil and armed reserve wings.
Hyderabad: In an indication of the small job market, and the attraction of safe government jobs, over 26,500 engineering graduates and postgraduates have applied for the jobs of sub-inspectors for which the minimum qualification is graduation.
There are about 500 openings, and the starting salary is Rs 30,000 plus, apart from job security. Thirty-three per cent of the jobs are reserved for women.
Among the techies are 24,500 BTech graduates and 2,083 MTech postgraduates.
Officials said the number of engineering graduates was higher this year than during previous recruitment drives. Also, among the applicants are 22,738 BSc graduates and 4,134 Masters of Science.
Sixteen applicants had MPhil degrees, and there were six doctorates, an official of the Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board stated.
The last date for applications was March 3.
Recruitment board chairman Dr Purnachandra Rao there were openings for 510 sub-inspectors. “We have received more than one lakh applications. Till March 1, we received 103,601 applications,” he said.
The applications were called for sub-inspectors in the civil and armed reserve wings, reserve SIs in the special police, Special Protection Force, and station fire officer in the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services department.
The preliminary written test will be held on April 17. According to government data from last year, there are more than seven lakh registered unemployed persons in the state and several thousands of them are engineering graduates.
