The Department has predicted light to moderate rainfall in Bengaluru and southern parts of the state.
Bengaluru: Heavy rains lashed parts of the city on Monday night, uprooting three full-grown trees in Chamrajpet, Tilaknagar and Sankey Road. Four electric poles and a car were also damaged. On 3rd Main Road, Chamrajpet, heavy rains accompanied by strong winds caused a tree to fall on electric poles, also affecting power supply in the area. BBMP and BESCOM officials removed the fallen tree and restored electricity. Heavy rains also brought down a tree branch near Janaki Kalyana Mantapa, Rajajinagar. K.R. Puram, Ramamurthy Nagar, Banaswadi, Padmanabha Nagar, Basavanagudi, Chamrajpet, Jayanagar also witnessed heavy rainfall.Many roads in eastern parts of the city were waterlogged, but the BBMP control room maintained that it had not received any such complaints.
The rain will bring relief to Bengaluru up to March 11, after the Meteorological Department stated that the temperature this month is one degree Celsius above normal. The Department has predicted light to moderate rainfall in Bengaluru and southern parts of the state. Mr Sundar M. Metri, head, IMD Bengaluru, said, “Compared to previous years, the temperature for March has gone up by one degree. The maximum temperature in the city is at 34 degrees Celsius. The city is also expected to witness cloudy skies followed by light to moderate rainfall.”
He said, “Upper air circulation over regions of north-interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, which has embedded with the trough formation in the Lakshadweep area, has led to rains in the interiors areas of South Karnataka including Madugiri, Hunsur and isolated parts of Bengaluru.”
