Cops to take action against Anbumani Ramadoss
The AIADMK leaders present, including former minister Valarmathi, were visibly very happy at Anbumani’s exhortation.
Chennai: The Thiruporur police on Saturday initiated steps for registering cases against PMK leader Dr Anbumani Ramadoss for allegedly hinting at booth-capturing by his coalition parties to ensure success of their candidates in the April 18 elections.
“We have sought legal opinion from the court, which may take a day or two to come. After that, we will file cases under the relevant IPC sections against Dr Anbumani for his speech”, Inspector S. Kannan of Thiruporur police station told DC.
Addressing a poll campaign rally at Thiruporur on Thursday, Dr Anbumani had boasted that the AIADMK-BJP coalition included strong parties, including his PMK, while the rival DMK camp has no significant vote-getter barring the DMK. That being the case, there would be none from the rival group in the poll booths, which would be under the control of the workers of AIADMK-led coalition, said the PMK leader, adding, “Only we will be at the booths. Then what? Do I have to say it out loud? You understood, right?”
Pointing to the AIADMK candidates Maragatham Kumaravel for the Kancheepuram (SC) Lok Sabha seat and S Arumugam for the Thiruporur Assembly by-poll, sharing space on the dais with him, Anbumani flamboyantly declared, “Both of them have won. It’s done. There will be none in the rival team to question us”. The AIADMK leaders present, including former minister Valarmathi, were visibly very happy at Anbumani’s exhortation.
But there were many who would not share the happy excitement on that dais. The DMK legal wing secretary R Girirajan dashed off complaint to the Election Commission seeking action against Anbumani “for having instigated to commit the offence of booth-capturing” and also for deployment of more paramilitary troops at all the polling booths. Taking note of the complaints in this regard, Kancheepuram district collector Ponnaiah directed the Thiruporur polling officer to send a report after making a detailed study of the ‘provocative’ poll speech. The latter approached the local police station for registering case against Anbumani and Inspector Kannan has sought legal opinion before deciding on the course of action against the PMK leader.
