Jagtial all set to become district
Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao promised district during 2014 General Election.
Karimnagar: Jagtial revenue division is poised to become a new district. Having rich historical and cultural significance, the division is a frontrunner among many other places which are tentatively figured in the list of new districts, across state.
Incidentally, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced that Jagtial would be made a district if TRS comes to power, during a public rally at the time of 2014 General Elections.
With 14 mandals and four Assembly constituencies, Jagtial has been a major revenue division of Karimnagar district. Prime canals of Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) flow through this division, enabling its farming sector to witness remarkable growth. It registers record trading of paddy produce, every year.
It has a staterun agriculture university from where new varieties of paddy seedS are developed. Historical star-shaped Jagtial Fort was built in 1747 by taking technical advice of French engineers, is situated in Jagtial town.
However, people of this region are comparatively equipped with poor medical facilities and education opportunities. They need to travel at least 50 km to reach existing district headquarters. Several places still don’t have basic amenities such as drinking water sources and connectivity. An IAS officer is always posted at Jagtial, considering vast area of this division, in order to ensure fruits of developmental schemes to reach this division and to enhance access to administration.
Despite, people have been hoping the division to be converted into a district since a long time.
