Railway track and a bridge were damaged at Tekulasomaram
The train travelling from Tenali to Secunderabad was scheduled to reach Bibinagar at 1.15am.
Hyderabad: Passengers traveling on the Delta fast passenger train had a lucky escape on Friday after alert railway personnel warned the train’s driver of damage further ahead on the track.
The railway track and a bridge were damaged at Tekulasomaram village of Valigonda mandal in Nalgonda district early on Friday. The train travelling from Tenali to Secunderabad was scheduled to reach Bibinagar at 1.15am.
But while it was crossing Tekulasomaram, the driver received an urgent message from the track checker saying the underpass bridge the tracks had been hit.
Three months ago, rail officials had removed a level crossing near Tekulasomaram village and built an underpass. Key works were pending and Friday’s rain disturbed the site further. Train services were restored at 8.20am after repairs to the underpass bridge. There was an eight-hour delay.
It must be remembered that the Delta passenger was the same train which on October 2005, derailed due to heavy rains at the exact same spot, killing 102 passengers.
