Hyderabad: In an attempt to handle the huge rush of passengers expected to the Metro stations, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) and L&T Metro are developing parking places at 32 out of 64 Metro Rail stations in Hyderabad.

Speaking at a press conference, HMRL managing director N.V.S. Reddy said that parking places at 17 locations were being jointly developed by L&T and the state-owned Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd. HMRL is developing 15 parking lots on its own.

“Parking places like at Lakdikapul station will have space for at least 300 cars. We have already identified sufficient land at all the 32 stations. During our survey, we have identified parking areas at 62 Metro stations,” HMRL managing director told the mediapersons on Saturday.

Mr Reddy said that there were proposals of the construction of underground parking at few stations. “We have already studied on the matter and L&T should announce its decision. Wherever we are having lesser space for parking, we are planning to opt for the underground parking,” he said.

Explaining about the various structures at Metro Rail stations, Mr. Reddy said,

“There will separate bays for RTC busses. We are giving a unique colour codes for it as like as bus bays existed in Paris and London cities. Similarly we are developing service roads connecting to Metro Rail stations. The stations will have 250 metre length on main road and there will be no impact on the general traffic as we are introducing a comprehensive ‘Parking & Circulation’ system.”

HMRL and L&T concessionaire are developing green-belt along the Metro corridors. It is spending Rs 44 crore for plantation, beautification and developing greenery.
