1,000 Telangana cops for poll duty in Karnataka
The policemen were sent after the Karnataka government officials sought help from their Telangana counterparts.
HYDERABAD: About 1,000 policemen from Telangana were sent to neighbouring Karnataka to assist the local forces in ensuring peaceful polls in the State. Karnataka State will go to the polls on May 12. The polling will be held in all 224 assembly constituencies in the State in one spell.
The policemen were sent after the Karnataka government officials sought help from their Telangana counterparts. The police has sent personnel dra-wn from various wings of the State police including Telangana State Special Police and Armed Reserve Personnel fr-om various districts along with officials ranking from sub inspectors to DSPs. A couple of very senior officials are also being sent.
Existing police check posts bordering Karnataka in Mahbubnagar, Gadwal, Sangareddy, Kamaredy and Vikarabad will be strengthened. The police wi-ll also be setting up more check posts on the highways to prevent influx of unsocial elements from Telangana into Karnataka in the run-up to the elections.
DGP Mahender Reddy said that the Additional DGP (L&O) Jitender will be the nodal officer who will be coordinating with Karnataka state.
