Bengaluru: Public catch youth for tearing holy book

Both the accused and the girl belonged to the same community, but when her parents came to know about the affair, they assaulted him.

Bengaluru: A 21-year-old youth was caught by the public and handed over to police when he was tearing pages of a holy book of his own religion and dumping them on a footpath near a mall on Cunningham Road on Saturday.

The accused is a fabricator and a resident of Lingarajapuram. He was assaulted by the public before being handed over to the High Grounds police. 

During the questioning, he confessed to doing something similar near Vidhana Soudha on May 3. Earlier an FIR was registered in this case against an unknown person. As the accused was being taken by the police, hundreds gathered in front of the police station. 

But the police and members of a city NGO, Movement for Justice, persuaded them to disperse.

His father told the police that the accused was upset after the girl he loved was married off to another person.

Both the accused and the girl belonged to the same community, but when her parents came to know about the affair, they assaulted him. After the girl’s marriage he was disturbed and angry over his religion. He is currently undergoing treatment at Nimhans, his father told police. He was remanded to judicial custody.
