Maud fixes duties of enforcement wing

Hyderabad: After constituting a separate enforcement wing in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the state government has issued orders specifying its responsibilities.

Each enforcement team will have eight members including an inspector and a sub-inspector. IPS officer Viswajit Kampati has already been posted as the director of the enforcement, vigilance & disaster management wing of the corporation.

As per instructions issued by the principal secretary Arvind Kumar, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Ministry (MA&UD), the enforcement wing can issue notices, inspect, remove encroachments, levy fines and demolish unauthorised structures. The wing will be responsible for the activities of the vigilance and disaster management wings.

The scope of enforcement encompasses all issues or subjects which form part of the GHMC Act.

A total of eight enforcement teams will be formed, one for each zone and two at the directorate level. The teams will act only upon instructions from the director, who in turn, has to be intimated about the action to be taken by the officer of the section concerned.

Each team consists of a circle inspector of police, executive engineer/deputy executive engineer, deputy city planner/assistant city planner, station fire officer, assistant municipal commissioner, assistant medical and health officer/sanitary supervisor, legal officer, two sub-inspectors of police, eight police constables and at least ten workers. The teams shall be provided with the required logistics such as vehicles, machinery, gadgets and communication systems.

The disaster management wing’s functions include identification of structures which pose a threat to life and property and conveying the same to the Enforcement Wing, constitution of quick response teams at strategic locations for emergencies and taking up disaster relief work when needed.
