TJS keen to test its strength in local body polls
The party leadership is of the view that the party will establish itself in the villages by contesting in the local body elections.
Adilabad: The Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS), led by Prof. M. Kodandaram, will test the political waters by contesting the local body elections if the state government conducts the elections for local bodies before the 2019 elections.
The party has got printed membership books and will start party membership campaign in villages and towns soon and will start work right after appointing party convenors and co-convenors for the districts.
The party leadership is of the view that the party will establish itself in the villages by contesting in the local body elections. However, the TJS is not sure if the sta-te government will conduct elections to local bodies before the 2019 Assembly Elections as it may get negative results with the anti-incumbency factor and that will have a negative impact on the Assembly elections.
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) first contested in the local body elections after its launch in 2001 and gained ground by winning a few sarpanches, MPTC, ZPTCs and two Zilla Parishads in the state, and the TJS is expected to adopt the same strategy.
The party has already appointed people in-charge of the districts. Telangana Vidya Vanthula Vedika state president Gurijala Ravinder Rao has been made in-charge of Mancherial and Kumarambheem Asifabad districts.
A TJS leader of Mancherial said, "The party was ready to contest in the local body elections if the state government decides to hold them, as it will give the party an experience ahead of the 2019 elections." The leader said that the party's first meeting held in Hyderabad boosted its morale as there was a good response from the people.
Party sources say this is the best opportunity for leaders to go to villages and strengthen their base in the communities.
