Chennai: 160 including 7 women picked up from rave party
College students, techies found drunk.
Chennai: A day after 159 students were detained by police for allegedly using banned drugs during a rave party in Pollachi, the Mamallapuram police picked up 160 persons, including seven women, having a similar rave party at a resort in Pattikulam near Mamallapuram on ECR in the wee hours of Monday.
Based on a tip-off that a few anti socials were wielding weapons and celebrating a birthday in a resort on ECR, a special team led by Tiruvallur superintendent of police Ponni raided 'The Odour' resort in Mammalapuram early Monday.
They raided the place and rounded up nearly 160 persons. Police said most of them were college students and techies from the city. They had assembled for the party after registering online with the organiser. The police said the guests were having liquor at a resort which did not have a licence to serve it and the alcohol bottles were 'smuggled' from Andhra Pradesh
A police officer said, "We heard from sources that a rave party was going on at an unlicensed resort and we rushed to the place. The resorts and hotels inform us before having liquor parties. We found the attendees were all under the influence of alcohol and we detained them at a marriage hall on ECR."
The Mamallapuram police registered a case and inquired the youngsters. Meanwhile, on Monday afternoon, the police summoned their parents or family members to take them.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Chengalpattu RDO, Muthuvarathan said the illegal DJ party was organised by V.Prabhu(34) who sold tickets online.
He was arrested and remanded.
He said that the resort was not licenced to provide liquor and drugs. However, the resort authorities had given permission to the organiser to hold a DJ party. "The owner of the resort, Thangaraj, has absconded and we nabbed three resort staff George, Saravana Kumar and Irfan," he added
Meanwhile, Kancheepuram district collector P.Ponnaiah ordered to identify all illegally functioning resorts and party houses in the district.
