Chennai: Child among family of 7 killed in car crash

Chennai: Seven persons including a child of a family were killed on Monday when their car rammed into a truck near Vengili, Vellore, police said.
“The accident occurred when their car collided with a parked truck on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway near Vellore on Monday afternoon,” a senior police officer said.
All five occupants of the car died on the spot, he said, adding that their bodies have been sent to the Ambur government hospital for autopsy.
According to sources, the family of the deceased, Melvin Deshmukh, from Maharastra, were heading towards Bengaluru on Monday afternoon.
When they reached Vengili village, the car’s front tyre burst and Melvin who was driving, lost control and rammed the car into a truck parked on the roadside.
The impact was so intense that the occupants - three men, three women and a child -died on the spot and the car turned into metal scrap.

Police said the car had a Karnataka registration number, adding that the occupants of the car were likely to be from Maharashtra.
An investigation has been ordered to find more about the grave incident which killed everyone.
