Nirmal: Endowments minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy has ordered an inquiry into the incident where a green gemstone from the Goddess Saraswati deity’s golden crown in the Basar temple has gone missing. It is rumored that the missing stone was a diamond.

The endowment officials say it was not a diamond but a gemstone from the golden crown.   The crown is a “Mulavirat” and one out of the nine stones is missing from the crown.

The executive officer of Basar temple, Sandhyarani, said the gemstone was missing for a few days and the issue came to their notice recently. She also issued a memo to the two priests of the Basar temple. She added that they were taking steps to replace the gemstone in the crown soon.

Indrakaran Reddy asked the officials concerned to take stern action against the officials responsible for the disappearance of the gemstone.

An ardent devotee Dr Ch. Raghavender had donated the crown with navaratnams to Goddess Saraswati in 2006.
