Hyderabad: Situation now under control, says cops

Heavy police contingents were deployed in the area to check any untoward incident and there was enhanced police patrolling.

Hyderabad: Police said that the situation in Amberpet ,where tension erupted on Sunday between two groups over the construction of a makeshift structure on the debris of a structure demolished by the GHMC for road widening, claiming it to be a mosque, is now under control.

Police has cordoned the place where demolition was carried out by GHMC in Amberpet area on which Muslims were removing the debris to construct a makeshift shed. The stretch was closed down from two sides and traffic was diverted.

Heavy police contingents were deployed in the area to check any untoward incident and there was enhanced police patrolling.

East Zone Police has constituted Special Teams to identify and nab the persons responsible for the trouble. Police teams are verifying the video clips taken by the cops during the tension.

Mr Anjani Kumar, Commissioner of Police said, “The situation in Amberpet is absolutely peaceful and two cases were registered. Some people were arrested under Section 151 of IPC. We have registered two cases and some people are under preventive custody. The patrolling during nights will continue till the situation reaches normalcy. ”

He told this newspaper that after the reinforcement of forces by senior officers, the entire area was being covered by patrolling.

“Sufficient force is there and we don’t expect any problem,” he added.

He also admitted that some people sustained injuries and they had lodged a  complaint and cases were registered based on it.
