Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and cooperation minister Kadakampally Surendran on Monday skipped the state- level inauguration of student markets opened by Consumerfed following the objection raised by Chief Electoral Officer Mr Teeka Ram Meena.

The CEO had declined the permission as it was sought by a junior official in Consumerfed without adhering to the norms. Mr Meena's office informed Consumerfed that there was no relaxation in model code of conduct enforced in connection with 2019 Lok Sabha polls till date. If the said matter is of utmost importance or unavoidable then it should be routed through chief secretary or cooperation secretary.

The Consumerfed had planned the state-level inauguration here on Monday. The chief minister was to inaugurate and cooperation minister Kadakampally Surendran to preside over the function. However, owing to the objection raised by the CEO, the Consumerfed MD launched the student markets.
