Tele-mulakhats in all Telangana jails

Hyderabad: Prisons will introduce ‘Tele-Mulakhat’ by the end of this month. As per rules, all undertrial prisoners can have mulakhat twice a week and those convicted will get two a month. Prisoners and their families will be allowed half an hour of mulakhat.
The visitors who come for mulakhat at the mulakhat chamber is disturbing both prisoners and visitors. As officials are allowing 10 to 20 prisoners and their families — up to three persons for each prisoner — they are unable to converse properly.
“Now, the mulakhat system is having two meshes with at least two feet distance between the two. Prisoners will be inside the chamber and visitors talk to them from outside. In the new system, we are renovating these chambers and replacing meshes with unbreakable glass. Sound will not pass from one side to another side through the glass. Both the prisoners and visitors will have phone connectivity and they can talk to each other through these intercom phones. We have decided to start the new system after a study at the Jabalpur prison,” he said. In many prisons, senior prisoners are ragging juniors. The DG said action will be taken against irregularities.
