Wednesday surprise: More showers in Chennai likely today
According to officials of the Regional Metereological Centre (RMC), for the next 24 hours, the sky is likely to be partly cloudy.
Chennai: After the onset of the southwest monsoon, several parts of the city received rains on Wednesday. Before the inclination of monsoon over the west coast, Chennai might receive rains even on Thursday, say weathermen.
Most areas in Chennai received around 30 to 40 mm of rainfall and Nungambakkam, where the temperature dropped by 10 degrees Celsius witnessed 3 cm rain. The southern suburbs were among the areas that got heavy rains.
Due to this, several areas including T Nagar, Teynampet, Perambur, Medavakkam, Porur, Velachery and Ennore witnessed water inundation and traffic snarls for a brief time.
According to officials of the Regional Metereological Centre (RMC), for the next 24 hours, the sky is likely to be partly cloudy. Development of thunderclouds is possible towards evening or night and the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 39 and 29 degrees Celsius.
"While even on Thursday, there is a chance for rains, they are expected to subside from Friday. But the west coast regions including Coimbatore, Theni, Kanyakumari, Nellai and Nilgiris will receive heavy rainfall for the next ten days," said weatherman Pradeep John. Other areas in the Western Ghats including Erode, Dindigul and Satyamangalam belt are also expected to witness rains.
