Tiruchy: NGOs give free saplings on World Environment Day

Neelamegam administered the pledge to the students on tree planting.

Tiruchy: The members of the Needamangalam based "Green Needa" working for mass afforestation and environment and 'Mahilangkaadu Makkal Mandram' gave a rousing reception to children joining five government schools by presenting each with a sapling in places in and around Vaduvur in Tiruvarur district on Wednesday, to mark the World Environment Day.

In a release at Needamangalam on Thursday, the chief coordinator of 'Green Needa' M. Rajavelu said they asked the students to plant the saplings in their respective school premises immediately.

The members of the 'Public Welfare Association of Road Accidents Prevention and Rescue' led by their president Maruti K. Mohanraj along with the Motor vehicle inspector P. Senthamarai distributed free saplings for those who came to the RTO office for getting their LLR at Pudukkottai on Thursday, to mark the occasion.

The members of the Tiruchy-based 'Thanneer', an NGO fighting for water and environment led by their secretary K C Neelamegam organised mass tree planting ceremony with the help of students in and around Khajamalai area in Tiruchy on Wednesday.

Later, Mr. Neelamegam administered the pledge to the students on tree planting.

The Tiruchirapalli city Corporation also organised a mass tree plantation ceremony under the leadership of city corporation commissioner,
N. Ravichandran with the help of local residents at Ponmalai area on Wednesday to mark the occasion.

The Karur district administration organised a similar function under the leadership of Ms. S. Kavitha, project director DRDA, at Jegathabi area near Karur on Thursday.
