Only Jr. NTR can revive TDP from dumps, assert next gen cadres
The demand has been coming up off and on ever since TDP has faced a humiliating defeat in 2019 general assembly polls
Tirupati: An opinion is building up within Telugu Desam that the party can rise up from its repeated defeats only if Tollywood star Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, a grandson of late chief minister N. T. Rama Rao, is projected as TD’s face.
The demand has been coming up off and on ever since TDP has faced a humiliating defeat in 2019 general assembly polls and went on to lose subsequent elections too. The latest one occurred on Sunday at Mulakalapalli village in Kuppam constituency, the bastion of TD chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
Fans of Jr. NTR erected a 40-feet-long flag post with a white-coloured flag embossed with the actor’s face. They raised slogans that Jr. NTR get into active politics and take over the reins of Telugu Desam at the earliest.
Earlier, when Naidu himself was addressing a public meeting at Santhipuram mandal in his own constituency on February 26, he had to contend with slogans in favour of Jr. NTR. A few TD leaders also opine that if the superstar could be projected as the next chief ministerial candidate, the party would get a new lease of life in 2024 elections.
“Currently, many Telugu Desam leaders and worker are feeling hopeless as anti-TD winds are blowing strong in Kuppam region. They are seeing no chances of the party getting revived and want to quit the party,” a senior TD leader said.
Some suspect the episode of flag with Jr. NTR’s face being hoisted could be the handiwork of a few YSRC leaders. Ruling party leaders of Kuppam, however, maintain they need not bother about the opposition party, which is already sinking fast.
Yet, there is indeed a feeling among cadres of Telugu Desam, particularly those belonging to the younger generation, that only Jr. NTR can be the future of the party. The actor, however, has on several occasions clarified that he would work as an activist of the party, serving it whenever needed. This is in the background of Chandrababu Naidu grooming his son Nara Lokesh as the future face of the party.
