Bengaluru: A 22-year-old woman was attacked by two bike borne unidentified assailants on Papareddypalya Main Road on Wednesday morning. It is suspected that the person who was stalking the engineering student for the last four years is said to be behind the attack.

The incident took place at around 8.30 am when the victim, a resident of Annapoorneshwarinagar, was on her way to the college. According to the police, the miscreants followed her vehicle from a distance before waylaying her. The pillion rider, without any provocation, pulled out a knife and stabbed the girl’s hand thrice. As people started gathering on hearing her scream, the assailants sped away. The girl sustained severe injuries in her hand and was admitted to a hospital.

“Preliminary probe revealed that a man has been stalking the girl for the time she was studying PUC. He used to call her from public telephones and pester her to love and marry him. Initially the girl ignored him, but recently he threw  beer bottle on her house. She, however, did not approach the police fearing consequences. On July 1, a person had misbehaved with her while she was going to the college and she had returned home and had informed her parents about it,” the police said.

The police suspect that the unknown person who has been making phone calls to the girl was behind the stabbing incident. “It appears like the caller has complete details about the family members of the girl. He used to call her only when her parents were not at home and he also knows their names. We suspect that some classmate, friend or a neighbour could be behind the incident. We are trying to trace the accused by analysing the call details records and have formed special team to nab him,” the police added.
