Bengaluru: With the state facing a poor monsoon, the inflow into KRS and Kabini reservoirs this year till date, is only 25% of the usual inflow forcing the government to start rationing of water stored in its reservoirs. Officials have been directed to use the available water for only drinking purposes, said water resources minister M.B. Patil on Thursday.

On the release of water to TN, Mr Patil said though there is a Supreme Court direction to release 10 tmcft of water in June, the government has decided to seek the top court’s intervention to bail it out from a precarious situation. Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said the total inflow of water into reservoirs in the state during June was only 12 tmcft. “How cand we release 10 tmcft to Tamil Nadu? At the moment, inflow is around 12,000 cusecs and around 4,000 cusecs of water is being released to Tamil Nadu,” he said.
