Chennai: The incident of a police DSP who had reportedly slapped a woman who was among a group of protesters demanding the closure of Tasmac outlet in Tirupur in April this year was distorted, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has claimed.

Refuting the charge leveled by the opposition legislator J. Anbalagan who questioned the rationale in promoting the DSP as Additional SP, in the Assembly on Thursday, Mr. Palaniswami said the protesters turned violent and began to ‘abuse’ the police and push them down. “The official had to chase them away,” the CM said and justified the promotion conferred upon the official.
