Policemen assault metro staff at Visvesvaraya station
Two other policemen, who came to his rescue, were also allegedly assaulted.
Bengaluru: The Visvesvaraya Metro Station witnessed an ugly fight on Thursday morning, when the police and metro staff assaulted each other following an altercation between a policeman and a metro staff.
It all began around 6.15 am when Anand Guddad - a policeman attached to the Karnataka Industrial Security Staff (KSISF) deputed for security at the metro station, assaulted a metro staff. The reason is, however, not clear as the police still questioning the persons involved in the spat. It is said that a metro staff, identified as Rakesh, refused to undergo security check as he was a staff and this led to an altercation. Another version was that the constable reportedly walked on a stationary escalator and was angered when Rakesh questioned him about it.
This led to an altercation between Rakesh and Guddad and the latter allegedly slapped and kicked Rakesh. This took place around 6.15 am. Around 9 am, almost three hours after the incident, 15-20 metro staff ganged up against the police personnel for assaulting their colleague and thrashed the constable. Two other policemen, who came to his rescue, were also allegedly assaulted.
Finally, the police and senior officials of BMRCL intervened and brought the situation under control. Both the parties have filed a police complaints. “We are not sure about the reason that led to the incident as there are multiple versions. It is also said that the police personnel are supposed to be at the station by 5 am were coming late and passengers were allowed without any check. When the metro staff questioned it, it led to an argument,” police said.
