Thiruvananthapuram: Congress to discuss rejig
A senior MP and a member of the PAC told DC that the committee will discuss the norms on the revamp.
Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress will focus on the party revamp at a meeting of the political affairs committee to be held on Sunday. The committee may also discuss KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran's decision to dissolve four block committees in Alappuzha for the poll debacle while sparing top leaders.
The party has been facing uncertainty over the revamp with Rahul Gandhi's decision to step down as its president. The Congress may face trouble in the local bodies' elections in 2020 and Assembly elections in 2021 with the BJP making rapid strides in the state.
A senior MP and a member of the PAC told DC that the committee will discuss the norms on the revamp.
"Irrespective of group equations, we will insist on the organisational revamp. When we enter the Lok Sabha, we feel like entering the RSS headquarters. This should not happen in the state for which it has to ready itself for the Assembly by-elections," he said.
By-elections will be held in the six seats of Vattiyoorkavu, Konni, Aroor, Ernakulam, Pala and Manjeshwaram. Senior leaders are also irked by CWC member A. K. Antony's silence on various issues, including finding a successor to Rahul Gandhi.
So far, the Congress candidate from Alappuzha, Shanimol Usman, has not reacted on Mullapally's decision to dissolve the four block committees. Shanimol Usman is the lone woman member in the PAC.
Another MP said that the Alappuzha debacle would be taken up in the PAC meeting on Sunday.
