BBMP revives compost santhe
On a Sunday morning hundreds of enthusiastic citizens eagerly shopped at the santhe.
Bengaluru: After a gap of many weeks, BBMP is back organizing composting santhes. This time it was at at Dr Vishnuvardhan Park in Jeevanbhimnagar ward and drew a good response.
On a Sunday morning hundreds of enthusiastic citizens eagerly shopped at the santhe. The mela had over 45 exhibitors with a range of solutions from organic composting, 'naati seed' growing techniques, home cleaning products and a lot more.
The repair cafe, e-waste recycling and upcycling solutions, solar composters, creative products from recycled tetra packs provided an array of solutions to citizens. Eco-friendly sanitary napkins and diapers, disposable plates made from bagasse, pencils from recycled newspapers, khamba pots and a host of gifting ideas attracted residents towards the santhe.
"For this santhe, government and private schools in the ward were roped in. They stole the show with their plays, songs and original music on the theme of 'responsible waste management'. MLA sponsored 'Chinnari Thota' aimed to educate children on the art of growing their own food," said Ms Aruna Newton, president of HAL 2nd Stage Civic Amenities and Cultural Association of Indiranagar.
While santhes are being organised there is no clarity on when and how will BBMP buy the compost from citizens. Many of my friends at other wards have bags of compost lying idle at their home, said a resident.
