Bengaluru: Enter this skywalk at your own risk, there are wires around!
The entrance is certainly the biggest embarrassment for the civic authorities who have come up with such an unplanned skywalk.
The skywalk near the Domlur flyover at HAL 2nd stage has its entrances blocked by the branches of a tree on one side and the cemented road map of Indiranagar put up by BBMP at the other. Moreover there are wires hanging from the trees to the skywalk posing serious hazard to the pedestrians using them.
Bengaluru: A systematic planning of the city's infrastructure is what the citizens ask for, but when the civic authorities display lackadaisical attitude even in making the basic infrastructure available, it certainly becomes a major cause of inconvenience.
At HAL 2nd stage, the skywalk near the Domlur flyover has its entrances blocked by the branches of the tree on one side and the cemented road map of the Indiranagar put up by BBMP at the other entrance. “The entrance is certainly the biggest embarrassment for the civic authorities who have come up with such an unplanned skywalk. How can they put up the solid road map block right at the entrance of the foot over the bridge?,” said Saurabh Sharma, a resident of Indiranagar.
The civic authorities have still not woken up to this problem and the two entrances of the skywalk continue to block the path of pedestrians.
Another disgruntled resident, Pravin Kumar attacked the authorities for not being able to remove the branches of the trees and the wires hanging on the staircases of the skywalk. "The wires are hanging from the trees to the skywalk and nobody cares. If somebody gets entangled in it and something unfortunate happens, who will be held responsible? The authorities must take responsibility for the things they have built for the citizens," Kumar said.
The long list of the inconveniences faced by the residents of the Indiranagar does not end here as the entire footpaths of Indiranagar, 100 feet have been encroached upon by vehicles. Most vehicles are parked in the 'no parking' zones. Mahesh Kashyap, a consultant with the Centre for Sustainable Development and also a resident of Indiranagar believes that the increasing number of vehicles in the city is becoming unmanageable and the law of the land is being brazenly violated on a daily basis. Kashyap pointed out, “There is a lack of parking space and due to huge commercial establishments coming up in the locality the vehicles are parked on the footpaths. Despite the coming up of the metro station at Indiranagar, the traffic has hardly come down.”
He believed that there is a lack of enforcement on the part of the administration. Indiranagar badly needs an overhaul, keeping in mind the need of the burgeoning city, which demands the optimum utilization of the resources and not exploitation.
‘Will take BBMP’s help to remove encroachments’
Q&A with the Corporator C.R. Laxminarayan
Both entrances of the skywalk near Barbeque Nation is either encroached by tree branches or the BBMP map of Indiranagar?
The moment we cut down the tree branch people will agitate. They do not understand the ground reality. Still I will try to send the letter to the BBMP and do the needful so that the commuters do not face the problem.
The footpaths are used as a private property by the commercial establishments who use it as parking space. How can it be controlled?
This can easily be removed. We will definitely take BBMP’s help to get the encroachments removed. The problem is in our knowledge.
The Air India property near the skywalk is full of garbage with foul smell emanating from it. Why?
Regarding the garbage we are very particular and the residents will tell you about our achievements. Segregation is being done on a regular basis. I will definitely get the garbage removed from the ground as we are very particular about maintaining cleanliness.
