People urged to protect the beach

Kozhikode: District collector U.V. Jose has urged the beach lovers of the city to own the renovated South Beach project and ensure its cleanliness, security and safety for which the district administration will extend all support.

The idea that the state should do everything for us should change, he said and added that he was ready to discuss the issues with the beach lovers’ forums. “I will extend all support to facilitate the participatory caring of the destination,” he said.
“I hope such responsible groups can chip in a great share in keeping the facilities upgraded and unspoiled,” he added. “The state government has spent such a huge amount and it is time we came out to own it and take steps to rectify things if there are shortcomings,” he said.
The beach lovers of the city have expressed their willingness to cooperate with the district administration. At present three groups ‘Clean Beach’ collective, Snehatheeram citizens’ group and ‘Fighting Fit’ are engaged in beach cleaning and keep a watch on the safety and security elements. Mr M.P. Sreejithkumar of ‘Fighting Fit’ told DC that they were ready to continue the job and cooperate with the district administration and municipal corporation to keep the beach clean.
