Yettinahole project: Report soon on de-silting tanks to store water
For the loss of three months, the government would pay them compensation, Shivakumar said.
Bengaluru: The state government has decided to prepare a detailed report on de-silting tanks in five districts coming under the Yettinahole project. At a meeting on the project here on Monday, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy directed the Minor Irrigation Department to prepare the plan to help store Yettinahole water in the tanks to be de-silted in the five districts.
Kumaraswamy also directed the officials to appoint three officers immediately to acquire 5,000 acres of land in 21 villages to implement the project. Addressing the media after the meeting, Water Resources Minister D.K. Shivakumar said that the government had decided to construct a reservoir near Koratagere in Tumakuru district to store water under the Yettinahole project. He said that the government would soon decide on acquiring land to raise the height of Alamatti dam to 524 feet.
As water would be stored only for three months during monsoon, the government was exploring ways to grant compensation based on the lines of Pavagada project, where land would remain in the names of farmers. They would not be able to take up agriculture during monsoon. They could take up agriculture for nine months after the monsoon. For the loss of three months, the government would pay them compensation, Shivakumar said.
