Chennai: DGP forms 5-member team to pep up security

DGP issued an alert to the police and advised them to carry out security measures in all over the state.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu DGP J K Tripathy on Tuesday has set up a five-member team comprising senior IPS officials, to initiate precautionary measures to avert any untoward incidents in the state, following revocation of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

The move comes a day after Union Home Ministry directed all security forces and law enforcement agencies across the country to stay on 'maximum alert'.

On Monday, the DGP issued an alert to the police and advised them to carry out security measures in all over the state. He asked the cops to remain vigilant and thwart any attempt to stage protests by inimical elements. They have been directed to strictly monitor the public places and religious places of works.

Following this on Tuesday, the DGP assigned five ADGPs to monitor situation in different zones.

According to a release from the TN DGP, the officers, all in the rank of Additional Director General of Police, have been allotted different zones in the state. ADGP (Armed Police), Shankar Jiwal allotted to West Zone and Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Salem City, ADGP (Idol Wing) Abhay Kumar Singh to Madurai City, Madurai, Dindigul and Ramanathapuram ranges, ADGP (SJ and SR) Shailesh Kumar Yadav to Central Zone and Tiruchirappali City, ADGP (Welfare) P Thamaraikannan to North Zone with Headquarters at Kancheepuram and ADGP (Operations) Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal to Tirunelveli City and Tirunelveli Range.

The officers are directed to take charge of designated areas, take stock of law and order developments and initiate adequate precautionary measures to avert untoward incidents and supervise law and order bundobust, it said.
