Vijayanagara: Minister for Housing and Minority Welfare Zameer Ahmed Khan has visited a residential complex established through a private-public partnership by the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA), in Mumbai on Sunday.

The minister inspected the residential complex in detail which is situated in Teachers Colony, Saibaba Nagar, Andheri East. During the visit, he learnt that the Slum Rehabilitation Authority has set up a slum dwellers' co-operative society and housing complex is being constructed in agreement with contractors.

Under this collaborative scheme, 50 percent of the land has been allocated to the leasing company and the contracting firm shoulders the task of contacting the banks to secure loans for beneficiaries if they require financial assistance. The contracting company also bears the expense for relocating slum dwellers to alternative residences or paying rent until the housing complex's construction is completed.

Minister Khan directed his officials to conduct an in-depth study of the feasibility of implementing a similar model within the Slum Development Board and Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation projects in Karnataka.

He stressed on examining both the advantages and potential challenges of such an approach.

The Minister invited officials of the Mumbai Slum Rehabilitation Authority to visit Karnataka.

Housing Department Secretary Naveen Raj Singh, former MP Harban Singh, authority officers Ashish Chaudhary, Balaji Munde, Abhay Ram, and others were also present.
