8 new medical colleges this year in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

The decision will allow the opening of five medical colleges including two minority colleges in AP.

Hyderabad: Decks have been cleared for new medical colleges in Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh after the Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to interfere with the order of the court-appointed Oversight Committee led by former Chief Justice of India R.M. Lodha granting approval to 26 new medical colleges for 2016-17.

Three of the 150-seat MBBs colleges are in TS: Mahaveer Institute of Medical Sciences (Vikarabad); Maheshwara Medical College (Patancheru) and RVM Institute of Medical Sciences (Medak).

The decision will allow the opening of five medical colleges including two minority colleges in AP: Maharaja (Vizianagaram), Gayatri (Visakhapatnam), Vishwabharathi (Kurnool); NIMRA (Vijayawada) and Fatima (Kadapa).

A second round of counselling will be held to fill convener quota seats in these college while the B-category seats will be filled based on Neet ranks, said G. Bhaskar Rao, president, AP Medical Colleges Association.
