KOZHIKODE: Film director Anjali Menon has proved that she can move people to action at a time of real crisis. As Kozhikode was facing a shortage of doxycycline tablets to prevent leptospirosis, she issued a call through the FB for the medicine with amazing results.
The Kozhikode corporation has received over 2.5 lakh tablets till date following her intervention. It was on Saturday that Anjali Menon gave her call to FB friends saying “we need to act now to save lives from the spread of leptospirosis in Kozhikode.” She said, “urgent need for doxycycline tablets. Please send tablets to Dr R.S. Gopak-umar, health officer, Kozhikode corporation, Beach road, Kozhikode, Kerala- 673032.”
The post was shared by 342 persons and many Malayalam film actors, including Nivin Pauly, responded fast. Dr Gopakumar told DC that the intervention of the director ensured a steady supply of the tablets to the city.
“As health officer of the municipal corporation I was not in a position to mobilize sufficient stocks of the tablets as the need was so high and the stock received by the state was so meagre. But after the FB post, she herself managed to pool one lakh tablets and many others started calling me and supplied medicines. One person sent 1, 07, 000 tablets while another gave 50,000 today and the flow is on,” he added.
