Hyderabad: Law aspirants lament delay in counselling
Approved colleges list expected in a few days, official says.
Hyderabad: About 16,000 candidates are adversely affected by the delay in LAWCET counselling. The LAWCET notification was released in March and the results announced in June.
The academic year usually commences in August but the counselling process has not begun so far.
The Telangana State Law Common Entrance Test (TS LAWCET) is a Common Entrance Test, conducted by the convenor, TS LAWCET/TS PGLCET-2018, Osmania University, Hyderabad, on behalf of the Telangana State Council of HigherEducation.
LAWCET is conducted for admission to the three year and five year LLB course. Regular courses and two year LLM courses in the Colleges of Law in Telangana for the academic year 2018-19.
The LAWCET convener Prof. S.B. Dwarakanath says the Bar Council of India has not released the list of approved colleges in the state, which has caused the delay.
He said the Bar Council has informed him that the list will be released in a few days.
Mohan Rao, who appeared for LAWCET this year said, “We applied for the TSLAWCET in March and gave the examination in May but till date the counselling process has not begun in the state. The academic year is supposed to begin in August but still there is no sign of the counselling process. If the course is delayed we will suffer as there will be a hurry to finish the syllabus. We demand that the counselling process begins as soon as possible.’’
Prof. Dwarakanath, says “this has been a problem for the past ten years because the LAWCET convener has to receive the list of all the approved law colleges by the Bar Council of India, Delhi, but they delayed the list this year. I am ready to conduct the counselling but the problem is we have not received the list so far. The moment I get the list I will start the counselling immediately.’’
He added, “We would be really happy if all the courses start together but that does not happen. We have been successfully adjusting the academic year. I spoke to the secretary of the Bar Council of India and he said he will be sending the list of approved law colleges in another week.”
