KOCHI: The premises of the five water-front apartments at Maradu were empty since Friday afternoon after the Supreme Court issued an ultimatum to demolish the buildings within two weeks.
The inmates just remained inside their apartments having lost all hopes of any positive news coming in the next two weeks. However, as a last chance, they are planning to give a curative petition even as its scope is very limited.
"This is the last hope. We are fighting for our living space as we have nowhere else to go. Hundreds of people are going to lose their homes. This is not silly. Why should we suffer for some fault that we didn’t commit,” said Beyoj Chennatt, a resident of Holy Faith H2O apartment.
“We will lie in front of the flat and fight till our last breath to save our lifetime asset,” he said.
According to Joyson E. Pallan, another resident, his family has no option but to end their life if they are pushed out.
“We have nowhere else to go. My kids are only studying and this flat is our only residence,” he said.
“We will end our lives if we lose our lone residence,” he added.
Meanwhile, another resident said that if the apartments were going to be demolished, there was a chance of the demolition remaining incomplete too. “Don’t just push us out and only demolish the building partially for namesake. Destroy it completely,” the furious resident said.
Golden Kayaloram, H20 Holy Faith, Alfa Serene, Jains Coral Cave and Holiday Heritage are the apartments to be demolished before September 20.
