Andhra Pradesh minister K Narayana's institutes in dock
The CPM leaders demanded that the authorities scrutinise every application and take action against the Narayana Educational Institutions.
Visakhapatnam: Left parties are alleging that the Narayana Educational Institutions belonging to municipal minister K. Narayana were "forcing" their students to get their parents registered for the MLC graduates constituency elections.
“Staff of the Narayana Intermediate colleges are assuring students of good practical marks in return of good number of registrations from their family members and relatives. In some cases, they have threatened students with fewer marks.
How can Narayana colleges do that,” said CPM city secretary B. Ganga Ram. He said that submission of forms in bulk was also against the norms. The BJP and the TD had set a target to the educational institutions belonging to their leaders to enrol graduate voters, he alleged.
On Saturday, around 7,000 filled in application forms brought by an educational institution after the stipulated time were thrown out by the RDO office. Those applications were burnt by the CPM workers. The CPM leaders demanded that the authorities scrutinise every application and take action against the Narayana Educational Institutions.
“Those educational institutions belonging to the minister did the same in other north Andhra districts also. The applications received online too need to be reviewed. District authorities should immediately call for an all party meeting to discuss all these issues,” he said. The CPM also lodged a complaint in this regard to the state chief electoral officer.
