Karnataka: Intel wing warns of violence on Tipu Jayanti
Sees no trouble in Madikeri, where two were killed last year.
Bengaluru: While there are debates going on for and against the celebration of Tipu Jayanti, the state intelligence wing has alerted the government that there could be incidents of violence and law and order problems in various parts of the state.
Sources in the intelligence wing said that they have recommended several security measures to be taken this time. “As there are protests related to the issue, it was easy for us to assess the situation. However, we have identified a few places where there could be possible incidents of violence. We have recommended a few security arrangements that have to be done,” an official said.
Thought it was Madikeri where the violence broke out and two people were killed, this time intelligence officials don’t see any major law and order problem there. “As there are clear reports of what could happen there, all security arrangements have been made in the district to avert any untoward incident. Those who are taking part in the celebrations will have to get passes from the police to attend the event,” the official said.
However, it is said that places like Srirangapatna, Kalaburagi, Chitradurga, Chintamani, Shivamogga and Dakshina Kannada could face law and order problems. Also, the intelligence wing has raised concerns that anti-social elements could try to disturb peace a day or two before the Tipu Jayanti on Thursday.
“It is learnt that some elements have planned to create law and order problem a day before Tipu Jayanti, as the security will be tight across the state on that day. We have recommended prohibitory orders at some places and the orders will be issued on Monday or Tuesday. Also, several people will be picked up as a precautionary measure,” the official said.
