NAAC accredits B++ grade to Central University of Kerala
Out of the 11 universities that had undergone the first cycle of the accreditation process, CUK is eighth in ranking.
Kasargod: Central University of Kerala (CUK), which underwent assessment by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council last month, has got B++ (2.76 CGPA) grading.
Out of the 11 universities that had undergone the first cycle of the accreditation process, CUK is eighth in ranking. Other two central universities on the list, Karnataka and Gujarat, have also got B++
The 18th standing committee of the NAAC held on Saturday finalised the gradings. CUK vice-chancellor Dr G. Gopakumar said it was a tremendous achievement for the University and a boost to the next accreditation process which would come up in next five years.
"Our University is in its infancy with just seven years, out of which first four years we functioned without own building or campus. Whatever achievements we could accomplish has happened in the last two years and the NAAC peer team specially mentioned it," he said.
"I think we have put up a good show. They are impressed with our diverse courses, diversity in the teachers and students' representation and the quality of research publications by the faculty members."
The CUK has teachers from 11 states and students from 16. The CUK which is presently functioning on four campuses in Kasargod (apart from off-campuses in Thiruvananthapuram and Thiruvalla) is expected to come up as a single campus at Periye by July.
"The work of the buildings is progressing at a fast pace, and by next year, the students can actually get that campus ambience at the CUK," the VC added.
The six-member NAAC peer team led by the founder VC of Central University of Punjab Dr Jai Rup Singh visited the campuses from October 23 to 27.
