Road damage near median in Hyderabad, a death trap
GHMC officials, however, claimed that the accident was not due to damaged road but the high speed of the bike.
Hyderabad: Senior Police officials from South Zone say that the accident spot at Santoshnagar where a motorcyclist died while avoiding a pothole on Sunday has a gradient, which makes it difficult for commuters to notice the damaged part on the middle of the road.
“Unless a driver has concentration on the road and is riding at a controllable speed, such accidents cannot be avoided. They said that since the damaged part is located near a road median, it becomes difficult for those taking a U-turn also to notice the damaged part, which is resulting in accidents.
“Changes on the engineering aspect of the road should be made in this particular stretch, in addition to carpeting the damaged parts with good quality works.” they said.
GHMC officials, however, claimed that the accident was not due to damaged road but the high speed of the bike. “Even if the roads are in good shape, if the driver is driving carelessly at high speed, accidents will occur, ” they said.
GHMC Chief Engineer Subash Singh said that they are working on the damaged stretches. “Irrespective of accidents, teams are continuously working on damaged stretches. By November ending, we can complete recarpeting of entire stretches.” he said
