South zone quiet through it all: GHMC

Hyderabad: In the issue of razing of encroachments, the south zone of the GHMC witnessed less objection from residents with regard to demolitions.
There have been fewer protests like what was seen in Kukatpally and the Hussainsagar downstream area. It should be noted that the south zone is where the ruling TRS is not strong.
GHMC zonal commissioner Srinivas Reddy said, “The maximum demolitions were carried out in the south zone area of the GHMC. In 2012, under the JNNURM project, the Murki nala, which is one of the biggest in the city, was widened and a large number of the structures were razed. Over 140 dilapidated buildings were knocked down pre and post monsoons. There are many structures yet to be removed at Uppuguda, Shivaji Nagar, Yakutpura and Dabeerpura. Over 300 structures are slated to be demolished in the coming week and the concerned MLAs are convincing the violators to cooperate with the GHMC, which has helped the corporation in fast execution.”
The nine nalas of the south zone were surveyed and the total numbers of encroaching structures identified were 658. The nalas inspected are: Wahednagar and Shankarnagar nala where four illegal structures were found. On a 1.125 km stretch of the Uppuguda and Shivajinagar nala, 86 illegal structures were found.
At Dabeerpura Nala, 28 structures were found in a one-km stretch. At Murki nala and Yakutpura, over 1,750 metres was checked and 115 structures were identified as illegal by GHMC officials.
In areas like Bahadurpura, Kishanbagh, 48 buildings were found to be built illegally on nalas. On the Nandimuslaiguda surplus nala 129 illegal structures were identified. to be illegal by GHMC officials.
