Telangana: Senior IAS officials told to vet welfare schemes
Officials were asked to suggest strategies for govt programmes and examine realignment of targets and fund requirements.
Hyderabad: Senior IAS officials in the state have been assigned the task of carrying out a mid-term review of the performance of various ministries and departments. They were asked to suggest strategies for government programmes and examine realignment of targets and fund requirements.
Though the government is spending over Rs 25,000 crore per year on populist schemes, it is facing criticism over failure to deliver on time due to lack of coordination between departments.
At a recent Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had asked ministers and officials to introspect as to why government schemes and development works were facing fund crunch, when government revenues are witnessing a growth rate of over 30 per cent annually.
Following the Chief Minister’s directions, chief secretary, Rajiv Sharma roped in senior IAS officials to take up mid-term review of each and every scheme. “We are collecting the details of every rupee allotted and spent on every scheme in the first half of this fiscal. This is because the results are not matching with the amount sanctioned and spent, indicating loopholes in the system,” a CMO official said. Their main task is to give suggestions to government on how to go about its remaining term in office.
