Chennai: MSPCA teams rescue 92 animals affected by rains

CHENNAI: Veterinary wing of Madras Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) rescued and provided treatment to more than 92 animals including dogs, puppies, cats and cows from low lying areas in Choolaimedu, Pattalam, Tambaram, Madipakkam and Kilpauk affected by rain in past one week. The veterinary wing under the supervision of veterinary officer Dr R. Sokkalingam rescued a total of 72 dogs, 19 cats and a cow till Monday evening. MSPCA had also launched 24/7 free ambulance services for rescue operations. The authorities also released an emergency help line number (044-25611628) to aid with animal rescue operations.

“We have rescued animals from city and suburban areas, also providing them with food and medical treatment with the help of our trained doctors and staff. A few animals were treated as they were suffering from dehydration, infections and others were rescued from drowning,” said Dr R. Sokkalingam. He added that 24 hours free ambulance services and medical facility is available at the help line numbers and urged the people to reach out to MSPCA in need of animal rescue.
