Hyderabad: SHE Teams counselling session bears fruit
A total of 48 minors undergo interactive sessions, vow to stay out of trouble.
Hyderabad: A counselling session conducted by She Teams of the Hyderabad police seems to have worked wonders for the 48 minors who attended it. The youngsters were caught in various acts of harassment. Their parents, who were present, have pledged to spend more time with their children. The session, conducted on Tuesday, was held in the presence of Shikha Goel, Additional Commissioner of Police, Crimes and SIT.
What is called ‘eve-teasing’ and is actually sexually harassing women, is a crime that is committed against women on a daily basis. Statistics reveal that more minors are committing this crime and hence it was thought necessary to teach and counsel them to put them back on the right track, said ACP Goel.
The Addl. Commissioner of Police, Crimes and SIT, Avinash Mohanty, M A Bari, Addl. Dy. Commissioner of Police, and C. Narmada, Asst. Commissioner of Police SHE Teams were also present at the counselling session.
Eight counsellors headed by Geetha Challa from Mano Jagrithi, an NGO, counselled the youngsters through various interactive sessions.
One of the minors, after the session said that he used to be harsh with his parents and elders and often enjoyed riding bikes at high speed for the thrill of it, but post the counselling, he has the goal of becoming an engineer and is behaving with responsibility.
Another minor who was nabbed for harassing girls, said that he now looks at women differently and that they have to be respected and treated like one’s own sister or mother.
said the official.The parents of the minors who attended the session along with their children were happy to see their children learn some very important lessons in such a caring way.
