Kannur: Eight more held for raping girl

Five persons were arrested on Wednesday taking the total number of arrested to 13.

Kannur: The police on Thursday arrested eight more persons in connection with the rape of a minor girl at Parassinikkadavu last month. The arrested include a close relative of the girl and DYFI Anthoor unit secretary Thaliyil Urumi Nikhil.

The relative was arrested for sexual exploitation of the girl many years back.

The others arrested are Kuzhichal Meethal Mrudal, 26, Vadakkan- chery Ushassil Vaishakh, 22, Thottathil Jithin alias Jithu, 28, Thaliyil Kandanchira Shyam Mohan, 25, K. Sajeevan and Muzhuppilangad Sarath, 30.

Five persons were arrested on Wednesday taking the total number of arrested to 13.

Three persons were arrested by Valapattanam police while two each were held by the cops at Taliparamba and Pazhayangadi. One person was arrested by Edakkad police. In total, 19 accused are involved and 15 cases have been registered. More arrests are likely in the coming days, the police said.
