PIL calls for scheme to renovate heritage building on Anna Salai
Originally, the PIL sought to restrain the authorities from demolishing the heritage building, which was over 200 years old.
Chennai: A Public Interest Litigant has appealed to the Madras high court to permit Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali to come out with a scheme for renovation and restoration of the heritage of the building-Government Madrasa-I-Azam Higher Secondary School-at Anna Salai.
When the PIL filed by Abdul Basith, executive committee member of Parent Student Association, came up for hearing before a division bench comprising Justices Vineet Kothari and Anita Sumanth, R.Abdul Mubeen, counsel for the petitioner prayed for two weeks time to implead the necessary party into the present PIL.
He also stated that the necessary proposed respondent (Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali) may be permitted to come out with a scheme for renovation and restoration of the heritage building in question. Advocate Karthik Raja, appearing CMDA also prayed time to get instruction in the matter. the bench posted to December 20, further hearing of the case.

A division bench headed by Justice T.S.Sivagnanam had on December 13, 2017 passed an interim order that no demolition of the building in question shall be done till this petition was heard by this court and the authorities shall justify their action as to why they propose to demolish the building.
