Vijayawada: State readies final coastal zone plan

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh is gearing up to submit the final draft of the state’s Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) as per Coastal Management Zone (CMZ) norms to the Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
The MoEF&CC had instructed the coastal states to prepare CZMP after which the state government approached National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM), Chennai, which is a society registered with MoEF&CC for preparing the CZMP.
The NCSCM prepared the CRZ plans for 9 coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh duly incorporating information received from concerned stakeholder departments such as AP Space Applications Centre, Directorate of Survey & Land Records, fisheries, irrigation, disaster management, tourism, town & country planning, public works, A. P. Pollution Control Board (APPCB), municipal administration & urban development, mining, etc.
The draft CZMP prepared by NCSCM, Chennai, was received by the APPCB. After receipt of the draft CZMP from NCSCM, public consultation was conducted by the APPCB in coordination with the district administration as per the procedure laid down in CRZ Notification, 2011, by giving 30 days notice to the public inviting suggestions and objections, if any on draft CZMP in writing, as per procedure laid down in EIA Notification, 2006.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Coastal Zone Management Authority (APCZMA) meeting was held at the AP Secretariat on December 4.
In the meeting, the NCSCM made a presentation on the draft CZMP. The APCZMA discussed the issue in detail and reviewed the suggestions and objections received in writing and during the public consultation, which would be suitably incorporated as admissible.
“Further, the draft CZMP and the related issues will be deliberated during the technical scrutiny meeting to be held in NCSCM, Chennai, under the chairmanship of ex-secretary, ministry of earth sciences Dr Shailesh Nayak, and the updated CZMP of AP will be submitted to MoEF&CC for final approval,” said senior official of APPCB, P. Lakshminarayana.
