Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to set up its first command-control room which will give it access to CCTV footage of all localities with help from the police department.
The corporation headquarters will have a large LED screen to enable it to monitor emergency situations as also day-to-day progress of civic works. The zonal and circle offices will have 38 smaller screens for the purpose.
The corporation will access CCTV footage with the co-operation of the police department. The GHMC will also set up its own cameras to monitor progress of works. For this, the civic authorities will equip mobile phones of its staff with a special mechanism and software, developed in-house, while they are at ongoing project and works sites. Higher officials will also be able to talk to the field staff via video conference with the facility.
A senior GHMC official said that a screen of size 10 metre by 28 metre will be installed on the 7th floor of its headquarters.
Offices of the Mayor, commissioner and additional commissioners will also have smaller screens.
Tenders for the project will be floated in the second week of January. The agency that bags the project will maintain it for five years while the back-end support will be provided by the corporation’s IT wing. The project will help save time to respond to emergencies, the official said.
