It's politically motivated, says BJP
In a press release, BJP general secretary N. Ravikumar, said the bandh call was neither convincing nor rational.
Bengaluru: Claiming the two-day Bharat Bandh called by pro-Left organisations and trade unions was politically motivated, the state unit of the BJP on Monday appealed to people to reject it and go about their business as usual.
In a press release, BJP general secretary N. Ravikumar, said the bandh call was neither convincing nor rational. “Withdrawal of shares from the PSUs started during the Congress regime in the early nineties. On the other hand, the BJP government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken steps to strengthen the profit-making PSUs and has restructured those that were in the red,” he added.
Mr Ravikumar contended that it was the Modi government at the Centre that had taken “concrete and meaningful” steps to implement the recommendations of the Dr Swaminathan Commission on determining the Minimum Support Price , when the last Congress government had kept its report in cold storage for a decade.
“Also, the Mudra scheme has solved the problem of unemployment to a significant extent, and created thousands of entrepreneurs in the country. There has been a silent economic transformation at the grassroots which the Congress and Left parties have not realised,” he argued.
Around 20 crore workers of the Central Trade Unions are expected to begin a 48- hour nationwide strike on Tuesday against the Centre’s alleged anti-labour policies. The strike is likely to hit the banking, education, telecom, electricity and transport sectors, among others.
