BJP-BDJS talks after February 11

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP State president Kummanam Rajasekharan will hold talks with SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan only after the Kerala Vimochana Yatra ends on February 11.

They will announce the candidature of 40 senior leader’s after the next core committee meeting in Kochi on February 17. By then, the BJP’s poll  committee would be formed to finalise the candidature.

Both RSS and BJP leaders had taken part in Vellapally’s statewide Yatra which culminated in Shanghumugham on December 5 last year when he announced his political party, Bharat Dharma Jana Sena.

But when Kummanam kicked off his Kerala Vimochana Yatra and the BJP leadership duly invited Vellapally to attend the programmes, he declined including the concluding rally on February 11 at Poojapura grounds. Union Home minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to inaugurate the concluding public rally of Kummanam’s Yatra.

“Though Kummanam invited Vellapally for the concluding rally as well, the latter declined. It was a disappointment for the BJP leadership. But the talks on seat sharing would be held only after February 11. In major constituencies, the BJP’s senior leaders will be contesting and the candidate list will be finalised at the next core committee meeting as well as the BJP office bearers meeting being held on February 17”, said a BJP leader.

Even before the BJP’s election committee has been convened, a majority of the senior leaders have kicked off their election work.

The Kasargod district BJP leadership is peeved with general secretary K. Surendran being fielded as the candidate from Manjeshwaram as he is being considered as an adviser. 

Surendran has been contesting from there in the Lok Sabha as well as Assembly elections over the last few years.

 

“Kummanam’s rally is concluding on February 11. After that, there are hardly 18 more days for the Assembly election announcement. Most probably, the declaration of elections is expected to be announced on March 7”, said a BJP source.
