Factory blast kills six workers in Hyderabad
Police officials said that a reactor went off triggering the blast of piled up chemicals inside a production unit.
Hyderabad: At least six workers were killed on Monday in a high intensity blast occurred at a Pharmaceutical company at Maheshwaram in the outskirts of Hyderabad in Telangana. One employee escaped with burns, Hyderabad police said.
Police officials said that a reactor went off triggering the blast of piled up chemicals inside a production unit.
The mishap occurred at Hasita Aromatics Private Limited when around 11 workers were present at a bulk medicine production unit. However, four of them were standing several meters away and they sustained no injuries.
Four deceased people are natives of Chhattisgarh, while one victim is from Andhra Pradesh and another is from Telangana, police officials informed.
“We are still investigating the cause of blast and what kind of chemical was stored here. Preliminary inquiry shows that a reactor triggered the blast,’ said LB nagar DCP Tafseer Iqubal.
Eyewitnesses said the blast was so intense that the body parts of the deceased were scattered in the unit.
