ISIS brainwashing Indians into joining: Syrian envoy
India was too strong to be mowed down by the terror elements, says Syrian Ambassador.
Chennai: Amid growing worries over the increasing influence of a radical ISIS in India and now even creeping into Tamil Nadu that was evident by recent arrests made by National Investigation Agency (NIA) where names of TN origin people cropped-up, Syrian Ambassador to India Riad Kamel Abbas said that India was too strong to be mowed down by the terror elements.
In an informal chat with Deccan Chronicle on the sidelines of a first-of-its-kind international conference on internal security organised at Guru Nanak College here, Syrian ambassador acknowledged the fact there was growing presence of Indian jihadists in terror outfits like Islamic State (IS) creating havoc in Syria.
However, he feels the Indian government was doing its best to fight it out and security agencies here are strong enough to take counter measures.
“The radical groups are brainwashing the Indians living outside the country first and through them they are able to recruit local people on false propaganda. I feel the Indian society should be extra vigilant and not allow the external forces to influence its way of life”, he said, while charging the United States as being responsible for sponsoring and breading IS.
He advised the Indian authorities, who are tech savvy, to closely monitor the 50,000-odd websites promoting terrorism for any suspicious activity. He also thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking a strong view on fighting terrorism saying there is no ‘good’ and ‘bad’ terrorist.
Earlier, delivering a special address at the conference, Syrian ambassador appreciated the Indian position towards Syrian crisis. “If everybody has done what India has done, we wouldn’t have any problem in Syria. Its stand of not interfering in the internal affairs of a country is commendable. I pray India stays away from all the trouble and keep any country like US trying to interfere in its internal affairs at bay”.
He thanked the diplomats from Iran and Russia, who were present at the conference, for standing alongside Syria during fight against terror in Syrian soil.
